What is included in my reservation?
➼ All bedding is provided including sheets, pillows and blankets (all rentals besides BYO tents).
➼ One towel and washcloth set per person is provided for you in your tent (all rentals besides BYO tents).
➼ Shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers are in all shower areas.
➼ 2 USB chargers and 2 lanterns per tent (glamping tents only).
➼ 1 bundle of firewood and 1 fire starter per night (glamping tents only).
➼ Breakfast every morning – typically breakfast burritos and locally roasted coffee. Oatmeal is available for people with dietary restrictions.(glamping tents and BYO tents only)
➼ S’mores by the camp fire each night (glamping tents, BYO tents and Campers)
➼ Water bottle refill dispenser in lobby tent (personal size fill-ups only please – no camelbacks or gallons – a outdoor spicket is available for large fills near the bathrooms)
➼ Use of the community gas grills and picnic areas (glamping tents).
➼ Use of the community charcoal grills and picnic areas (BYO tent sites).

If you forget to bring anything else you need – we recommend The Pit Stop which has a variety of essentials and is located on HW 17 in Mosca (about 10 minutes away).
What is available onsite for purchase/rent?
➼ Grill packs and adventure lunches are available only if pre-ordered (2) days prior. See our menu for details.
➼ Adult beverages including bottled beer, wine, and mimosas.
➼ Select non-alcoholic beverages.
➼ Sand boards and sand sleds are available to rent for $20/rental. We don’t reserve these – but only rent them to guests and so far we’ve had enough to accommodate everyone. Typically guests rent them the morning they head out – if you are going out super early you can rent them the night before.
➼ Additional firewood or fire starters. $7/bundle of firewood.
➼ Grill utensils can be rented for $5/set – if you bring your own food to grill and need utensils. Grill packs include all utensils, condiments and seasonings.
➼ Plates, forks etc. for your personal grilling can be purchased for $3/set we suggest bringing your own though if you plan to bring your own food – if you order food from us everything is included.
➼ Coolers are available for rent for $15/stay. Please reserve your cooler ahead of time as we have a limited number of them available.
What is not included in my reservation?
➼ Your guaranteed comfort. We provide many of the comforts of home, but you are still staying in a tent.
➼ Guaranteed perfect weather. We cannot control the weather but if we could – it would always be perfect so all our glampers could enjoy their experience to the utmost. Keep an eye on the weather and pack accordantly.
➼ No bugs allowed in tents or at camp. We tried to put signs up – but it didn’t seem to help. You are still out in nature, and bugs are a fact of life while in nature. We do our best to mitigate ants and other bugs in the tents and appreciate your help by not eating anything inside of your tent.
➼ The perfect temperature. Because of the elevation you are unlikely to be too hot at night even in the dog days of summer – you are more likely to get cold. We provide instructions for you to light your camp stove to assist with this, but you are responsible for keeping it going at night if you wish to. If you often get cold at night – bringing some extra blankets may be a good idea as well as bringing warm clothes to sleep in.
➼ Keeping your food cold for you. We do not have an ice machine at this time, so please make sure to get ice for your cooler on your way to camp. Having a cooler that is well insulated will help keep your ice… well ice – longer.
➼ AC (glamping tents & BYO tents) – if you are visiting during the summer your tent will likely be rather warm during the day – sitting in the shade on your porch is typically pretty pleasant particularly if there is a breeze.
➼ Electricity (glamping tents and BYO tents). No power is available in the homestead glamping tents. We provide lanterns and portable USB chargers for your cell phones. The Estate tents have an extension cord with 2 outlets. If you need to charge something else ask your camp host and she or he will do their best to accommodate your needs.
➼ Anything else not listed to be provided.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
For breakfast we offer gluten free oatmeal and regular oatmeal in an effort to accommodate vegetarians and those who can’t eat gluten. Due to lack of storage space and low demand we do not have other options for our grill packs or adventure lunches at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience and do wish to expand our menu in the future.
Checking in and Checking Out:
Tents are available for check in after 3pm.
Contact us for late arrivals after 7pm – self check in is available after 9:30 – must sign waiver digitally for this option and speak to camp host before arrival for instructions.
When you check out just bring your lanterns and chargers to a staff member, zip your tent, and make sure not to leave any food garbage in it. Check out is at 10am – we cannot accommodate late check outs.
What are the check out procedures?
Glamping tents: Please just make sure no food garbage is in your tent (ants are sometimes faster than we are at getting to the garbage), and bring up your lanterns and chargers to the lobby tent on your way out. That’s it! You can leave your bedding as it is, and towels in the tent. If you moved any chairs outside please put them back in before leaving.
BYO tent sites: Please leave your site clean with no left behind items or garbage.
Bins and Campers: Please wash all your dishes and leave them out on the counter so we can make sure they are ready for the next guest.
Additional Sleeping Arrangements:
We can provide up to 1-2 camp cots per tent (2 for tents with king beds, 1 for 2 full and 3 singles) with bedding for $15ea per stay. Max. occupancy is up to (5) per tent and (2) per roost. Exceptions can be made for large families with small children who don’t mind being extra cozy. Each tent includes (2) adults. Additional adults are $30/nt – additional children (under 12) are $15/nt. Cots must be reserved prior to arrival.
What are the bathrooms/showers like?
If you reserve an Estate Tent you will have your own private bathroom with hot water, a sink, toilet, and shower. There is a canvas divider separating the sleeping area and the bathroom/shower area for privacy. Our homestead tents have the use of our community bath house. Our bath house has 6 individual private stalls each with a shower, sink, and toilet inside and on demand hot water. See our Photo Gallery for pictures of both types of bathrooms. The community bath house is a 1-2min. walk from your tent.
Can I park next to my Tent?
All guest are to park in the parking lot at the front of camp, and can access their tent via a foot path. If you have a hard time getting around, let us know and we can assist you with a golf cart, or you can request a tent closer to the parking lot. We also have wagons available for your use to help with your luggage.
Do you have Electric Vehicle Chargers?
Yes – we have 2 level 2 EV chargers – they are available for guests only, payment to be made via EV Connect app. Link here
Is it safe to keep food in my tent?
Yes and no. Bears and large predators typically do not venture so far from the mountains, however desert insects and rodents do live here, so to minimize their exploration into your tent as much as possible we ask that you do not eat inside your tent, and keep any food in a cooler or hard sided container – ideally on the front porch.
Can I have my own campfire outside my tent?
Rustic Rook has one community fire area that is lit every night with S’mores for everyone. Due to fire risks no other fires are permitted outside however you will have a camp stove in your tent – you are welcome to light that.
Where can I grill food – can I bring my own grill?
We have (5) community gas grills available in the picnic area – they are first come first served for anyone staying in a homestead tent. Our estate tents each have their own grills by their tents, BYO tent sites have nearby charcoal grills to use, and Bins and Campers have their own charcoal grill to use. If you wish to bring a small camp grill and use it outside by your tent you are welcome to. No cooking of any kind is allowed on the camp stove inside the tents – they are for warmth only.
How far away is The Great Sand Dunes National Park?
Rustic Rook Resort is located 19 miles from the park entrance. We are the 2nd closest privately owned lodging option to The Great Sand Dunes National park. You can see the dunes below the majestic towering 14,000ft mountains from the glampground.
Power in tents & around the camp:
No power is available in the homestead tents; however, we provide battery powered lanterns, fans and an in-tent USB phone charging station. We provide two USB chargers per glamping tent. These will last for 7-9 phone charges – replacements are not available unless your stay is longer than 3 days. Our Estate tents all have a power cord with 2 outlets – Estate tent guests will still be given 2 lanterns and 2 chargers to use during their stay. BYO tent sites do not have any power at or near the sites and bin/campers have full power. Your lanterns and battery chargers will be checked out to you at check-in – we ask that you return them to the lobby tent when you check-out.
What if I need power for a CPAP machine :
Since we do not have any power inside or near any of the homestead tents or BYO tents we cannot provide power for CPAP machines for those rental options. Our Estate tents now have limited power that will provide power for your CPAP machine, so if you book an estate tent – you will be all set. For a Homestead tent we have had guests bring their own battery packs for them though, and we are happy to charge your battery pack for you during the day if needed. We would suggest doing some research to find out what type of charger works best for your CPAP.
What furniture does my tent include? :
We supply (2) chairs inside your tent & (2) outdoor porch chairs, a coat hanger, rug, (2) night stands, a side table and a camp stove. Our Estate tents also have a fold out couch in the lounge area.
Pet Policy:
We allow well-behaved dogs and we even have a fenced in dog park! We charge a $25 pet fee/pet per stay with a max. of 2 dogs per glamping tent, $15/dog/stay 2 dog max for BYO sites, $30 per pet/stay max 2 pets for SELECT bins and Campers. Make sure you book a pet friendly bin or camper if you plan to bring a pet. Pet owners are required to keep their pets on a leash (6′ max length) and clean up after them. Pets are not to be left unattended in your tent at any time. Please do not allow your pet on the furniture/beds there will be an additional $50 cleaning fee if excessive pet fur is on the furniture/bedding. Pet owners are responsible for their pets behavior at all times. No nuisance or aggressive behaviors will be tolerated.
For boarding/daycare options we do know of a local that is on Rover – her name is Christy. Her phone number is: 858-374-1426. She will pick up and drop off your dog and watch them in her home while you are out for the day. Give her a call ahead of time to see if she can accommodate you and for pricing.
Children:
Children under 13 must be supervised at all times by an adult over 18. Parents or guardians are responsible for all minors under the age of 18.
Where are the nearest stores and places to eat:
The Mosca Pit stop is 4 miles away on HW17 – it has a small convenience store, ice, gas etc.. Mosca also has a small market now with a distillery the Root Cellar Market and Dune Distillery – they have plans to offer more products and have a restaurant in the future. For now they have a small verity of food items for purchase (mostly local), 4 mixed drinks on tap from the distillery and sometimes have food truck in the parking lot. Alamosa is our closest larger town with stores like Walmart, Safeway and City Mart along with a verity of restaurants.
Is their a min. age to book a glamping tent:
Each tent (besides the kids tents) must have someone over the age of 21 in the tent. Call for exceptions.
Smoking Policy:
Smoking cigarettes is only allowed in the parking lot – please properly dispose of when done.
Where is the best place to star gaze?
The Great Sand Dunes National Park is a International Dark Sky Certified Park – and a great place to view the stars. Since Rustic Rook is only 19 miles away from the park it’s also an excellent place to stargaze.
Fire Pits:
We have a community fire pit *that is lit each night between dusk and 9:30pm with S’more fixings provided. *time subject to change. We also have gas fire pits available to rent. For those of you staying in a camper or BYO tent site, the fires can be set up in front of the sites. For those of you staying in glamping tents, fire pits can be set up in select locations. All fires must be out by 9:30pm.
Are the Tents Lockable?
If requested we can provide you with a zipper lock for a $10 rental fee. We do suggest keeping all your valuables in a locked car. A $10 fee will be charged for any lost keys.
Do cellphones work well at camp?
Best practice is to check with your cell phone service provider. From our experience typically AT&T and Verizon work pretty well at the camp.
Wifi:
Wifi is available in our lobby tent and will likely not work inside tents. Please only use the Wifi for email and light data (no movie downloads). The wifi password is posted in the lobby tent.
Our quiet hours:
In an effort to accommodate many travel styles quiet hours are from 10pm to 7am. That means keeping sound to a minimum – no loud talking, no music, no amplified sounds or vehicle engines running etc. In general just be a good neighbor to all those at camp. Be respectful and kind.
Packing suggestions – check the WEATHER:
The San Luis Valley weather varies – we suggest you check the weather right before you pack and plan accordingly. It may be warm during the day but still chilly at night so bring layers & warm PJs/socks for sleeping (sweat pants/hoodies are also good to extra layers). We also suggest bringing USB cellphone chargers, refillable water bottles, bug spray, sunscreen, and any gear tailored for your planned activities. During September and October expect average lows in the 30s at night and highs in the 70s during the day. Each tent has a camp stove (not for cooking on – but for staying warm at night) you will be provided with 1 bundle of fire wood and a fire starter each night of your stay – additional wood is available for purchase. You will be responsible for keeping your fire going at night to stay warm if you wish to do so. Your camp host will provide instructions on how to start the camp stove – make sure to pay attention and ask any questions at that time so that you are confident you will be able to start and keep the fire going if you wish to do so. Cancellation policy:
A 10% cancelation fee and a $3.50 booking fee will be charged if you cancel your reservation 30 days or more prior to your check in date. A refund is not available if you cancel within 30 days of your check in date. If you would like to reschedule instead you may do so for a $30 fee (rescheduling option only available 7+ days prior to your check in date and must be scheduled for the same calendar year). Should cancelation be necessary in the event of an extreme weather occurrence, you will be refunded the total amount less a $25 booking fee or can reschedule for no charge.
Camp Stoves:
Each of our glamping tents include a wood burning camp stove to keep you warm at night – 1 bundle of fire wood and a fire starter kit per night is available for your on-site use. Additional wood and fire starters can be purchased at the camp store. Do not cook on the camp stoves – they are for keeping the tent warm only – any grease found on the camp stoves due to cooking will result in a $25 cleaning fee. You will be responsible for keeping your fire going at night to stay warm if you wish to do so. Instructions on starting the camp stove will be hanging from your coat tree – if you have any questions make sure to ask a staff member before the lobby closes . A fire extinguisher is available in your tent for any fire emergencies.
Emergencies:
Please call 911 first for life threatening Emergencies – for all other emergencies and if you need immediate assistance while at Rustic Rook call the after hours emergency number posted in the host station.
Getting here via air:
We recommend flying into Denver or Colorado Springs for the most affordable flights. To avoid driving too far, look for a connecting flight from Denver right to Alamosa (less than a 30 minute drive to Rustic Rook).
Getting here via road:
We recommend checking on google maps for the best route to Rustic Rook. We are located between HWY 17 and HWY 150. As you turn off of either of those roads hop on County Road 6N (paved road) then only 1-2 miles down 113 (dirt road) to 5N – at this point the tents will be in view! Using 6N instead of 5N for as long as possible helps minimize dust – and our neighbors would greatly appreciate that!
Damages:
Damage to your tent or Damaged or missing items from your tent will be billed to your credit card.
Lost and left behind items:
Shipping and handling charges will apply if you request us to pack up and return your left behind items.
